Analysis and Evaluation of Surahs Nûr and Furqân from Imam Muhammad b. Abü'al-Qâsim b. Bâjük al-Bajâlî al-Hârizmî's "Miftâhu't-Tenzîl" Tafsir

This thesis presents an analytical study and critical edition of the manuscript Miftāḥ al-Tanzīl, authored by one of the prominent exegetes of the 6th century AH, Imām Muḥammad b. Abī al-Qāsim al-Baqqālī. The research is based on a manuscript consisting of 257 folios and focuses specifically on the interpretation of Surahs al-Nūr and al-Furqān. The primary aim of the study is to uncover the exegetical methodology employed by the author. His approach is characterized by interpreting the Qur'an through the Qur'an itself, utilizing transmitted reports (maʾthūr), and displaying a noticeable inclination toward the Ḥanafī school of jurisprudence. In the critical edition of the text, scholarly research standards were strictly followed, including the documentation of verses and narrations, the clarification of semantically complex or infrequently used words, and the transcription of the manuscript in accordance with its original script style. The study highlights al-Baqqālī's original approach, especially in verses open to ethical and mystical interpretation. This reflects his independent scholarly personality and contemplative orientation toward spiritual thought. Moreover, it reveals his deep knowledge of Qur'anic sciences and his critical stance toward the opinions of other exegetes. Although committed to the Ḥanafī school, al-Baqqālī produced a unique and scholarly tafsir. This research constitutes a significant contribution to bringing this important work to light and aims to encourage further academic studies focusing on the critical edition and analysis of the remaining parts of the manuscript.
