Abstract (EN)

Kant's conception of knowledge speaks of the gap between appearance and concept. However, for Kant in general, in order for knowledge to be possible, these two sources of knowledge must be synthesized. Kant explains to a large extent how this synthesis is made and what is possible to apply appearances to concepts in the Transcendental Schematism chapter of his Critique of Pure Reason. Thus, according to Kant, as a result of this synthesis, Transcendental Schematism, as a product of imagination, enables an mediate representation between concepts and appearance. This mediating representation must be sensible on one side and intellectual on the other. For Kant, through this function of the transcendental schema, the disconnect between appearance and concept can be eliminated. Kant demonstrates that this is done with the condition of time, which is a determination of the inner sense, through its relation to both categories and appearances. Thus, in this thesis, Kant's view of Transcendental Shematism in his book Critique of Pure Reason is emphasized. Transcendental Schematism is one of the fundamental issues for the understanding of Kant's view of knowledge in CPR. Accordingly, the thesis will first try to elaborate on Kant's view of knowledge in his Critique of Pure Reason. Later in the thesis, it will be explained how Kant used the concepts to be discussed for the transcendental schema. These concepts will be discussed in the context of Kant's view of appearance, categories, time and imagination. In the last section, schemas are discussed in the contexts of subsumption, application, and homogeneity. In the section on Transcedental Deduction, the possibility of applying categories to appearances, the application of a priori objective probability in Transcendental Schematism, and the function of imagination and time in this practice are discussed. In this thesis, the possibility of using both understanding and empirical concepts through the functions of imagination and time is discussed. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis will be to show what are the functions of schema in Kant's CPR that provide the conditions for the application of categories to appearances.
