An opponent personality in the transition from empire to national state: Velid Ebuzziya

Following the Armistice of Mondros, beginning the National Struggle under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal, Analotia was passing through a difficult process. At that time, people were divided into two opposing base, including supporters and opponents of the National Struggle. Turkish Liberation Struggle, which was between the years 1919-1922, has resulted in victory as a result of the will of the people and the definitive, immutable, stable stance of the Ankara goverment so it was opened the way to the Republic. The subject of our study Abdurrahman Velid Ebuzziya was exactly biased National Struggle with his conservative caracter and proved it both with the articles in his own newspaper columns and actually what he did. In the process of leading to the republic, Mr. Velid was criticizing the new regime harshly as he wanted to be preserved the grand national assembly as it was for this reason he was judged in the İndependence Courts finally he was acquitted of all chorpes. But these latest developments could not present political apathy between Mustafa Kemal and Mr. Velid. Velid Ebuzziya, who had important services for Turkish press, died in 1945. In this study the findings have enriched our thesis we obtain from İSAM, TİTE and Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives and columnist in the newspaper Tevhid-i Efkâr and Tasvir-i Efkâr of Ebuzziya. In the process leading to the republic from the national struggle Velid Ebuzziya's role within the conservative identity his perspective to the new regime and his contribution to the history of the Turkish press constitute the backbone of our thesis.
