Abstract (EN)
The Treaty of Sèvres is an approach that accepted as the last phase of the Eastern Question for the Ottoman Empire. The explanation of this phase, which has an extremely critical point for Turkish history, is of great importance for Turkish political life. The Sèvres sharing plans designed by the the Entente Powers during and after the war were finalized with the Paris Peace Conference and its extensions which the London, San Remo and Spa Conferences. The Treaty of Sèvres, in which the Eastern Question came into being, was signed by the Ottoman Empire as a document of destruction. The preparation process of the Treaty of Sèvres, which witnessed great debates, was followed closely by the Ottoman public. The importance of the treaty to be signed by the the Entente Powers was noticed early in the Ottoman public opinion due to the occupation policies carried out. The formation of the National Forces (Kuva-yı Milliye) and the National Movement (Milli Mücadele Hareketi), which was formed against the policies of the Entente States, emerged as a necessary reaction against these attitudes. The purpose of this study is that the policies in the process leading to the Treaty of Sevres, the preparation process of the treaty, the approach of the Ottoman public opinion to the issue and the determination of the Allies' attitudes on this issue. In line with this purpose, it is hoped that a new horizon will be gained in research on the subject. During the writing process on the subject, the Presidency State Archives, the British National Archive, official publications, the minutes of the Ottoman Parliament (Meclis-i Mebusan), the minutes of the House of Commons (Avam Kamarası), the important newspapers of the period, the memories of respected people and research were used. In the use of the obtained resources, an effort was made to reach the right information by the comparison method, and document analysis technique was used as a method for this. As a result of the findings, it can be concluded that the Ottoman public never trusted the Treaty of Sèvres and considered it null and void since the day it was signed. The treaty, signed as a defeated state, looks more like a document of destruction than treaty.
