Increasing efl students' level of participation through pre-reading activities in reading classes

The aim of the study was to increase the students' level of participation through pre-reading activities in reading classes. This study was designed as an action research. I preferred this method since it would be a great help to observe the increase in my students' level of participation. The participants of the study were 20 intermediate level students who were attending Hasan Kalyoncu University in Gaziantep, Turkey. In this study, three types of instruments were used in order to collect data. These were reflection sheets, a teacher diary and interviews. In other words, the action research study was designed to investigate the contribution of those pre-reading activities on the students' level of participation in reading classes and the students' attitudes towards these activities. In the light of data analyses, this study revealed that pre-reading activities help to increase the students' level of participation in reading classes.
