Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of physical activity status of correctional officers on psychological well-being and burnout levels. The sample of the study consists of 82 female, 143 male and a total of 225 correctional officers working in Gümüşhane province in 2024. Psychological Well-being Scale, Burnout Scale and International Physical Activity Scale were used as data collection tools within the scope of the research. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage) were calculated for data analysis. Independent T-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were applied to determine the differences between the groups, and in case of significant differences in the ANOVA results, Tukey test was used to determine the different groups. According to the results of the study, 39,6% of the participants had inactive, 32,0% had minimally active and 28,4% had very active physical activity levels; Although it has little effect on psychological well-being levels, it has been found that increasing physical activity levels has significant positive effects on burnout levels (p<0.05). A negative moderate relationship was found between psychological well-being levels and burnout levels (p<0.05). It was found that female (x̄=43.80) correctional officers had better psychological well-being than male (x̄=41.97), but their burnout levels were higher in female (x=3.95) than in male (x̄=3.78). As a result, we can say that physical activity has positive effects on the burnout levels of correctional officers, but does not have much effect on their psychological well-being. At the same time, although female officers have better psychological well-being than male officers, it is thought that the reason why their burnout levels are higher than male officers is due to the difficulty of working conditions.
