Özet (EN)
Title: Determination of the relationship between caffeine consumption and reasons for preference in women according to the cause of infertility Aim: It was aimed to determine the frequency and reasons for preference of caffeine consumption, which is known as a risk factor for reproductive health in women, and to determine its relationship with explained and unexplained infertility. Methods: The study was conducted in the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Unit of Medical Park Trabzon Karadeniz Hospital between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023. The researcher used a face-to-face interview technique by obtaining verbal and written permission from women diagnosed with infertility. The data were collected with the isodemographic characteristics determination form and the caffeine use-specific data collection form and analyzed with IBM SPSS V23. Compliance with normal distribution was investigated by Shapiro-Wilk and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests. Chi-square test, Yates correction and Fisher-Freeman-Halton test were used to compare categorical variables according to groups. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the data that were not normally distributed according to the pairs, and the Kruskal Wallis test was used to compare the data that were not normally distributed according to the groups of three or more. The relationship between the data that are not normally distributed was analyzed with Spearman's rho correlation coefficient. Findings: A significant difference was found between the distribution of findings regarding women's reasons for caffeine consumption (p = 0.001). It was determined that it was consumed "for taste" in the infertile women group whose reason was explained, and "to feel better" in the infertile women group whose reason was not explained. When the daily caffeine use of women in both groups was evaluated, no significant difference was seen between the two groups (p = 0.567). Conclusion: It is important to understand the risky behaviors of women in terms of reproductive health, to determine the factors affecting these behaviors and to develop preventive strategies.
