Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between dietary inflammatory index (DII) determined from the nutritional status of women treated for infertility, and the relationship between individuals' anthropometric, biochemical markers and physical activity levels and dietary habits with embryo quality and pregnancy outcome. The study included 69 female individuals aged 25-35 years, who were diagnosed with infertility, who applied to at a university hospital in Ankara for infertility treatment, between May and June 2019 and who did not have chronic disease. The consumption averages of the daily nutrient intake were calculated from the three-day food consumption records taken get from the individuals. Dietary inflammatory index were calculated based on the daily nutrient intake averages from the individuals' three-day food consumption records. Dietary inflammatory index scores of individuals were divided into three groups (tertiles); DII scores 0.632 1. tertile, DII 0.633-2.293 2. tertile ve DII 2.294 3. tertile. As the numerical value of the tertiles increases, the inflammatory burden of the diet increases and the first tertile predicate a anti-inflammatory diet, and the third tertile predicate a pro-inflammatory diet. The average of DII was 1.58±1.60 in women. In addition, individuals' dietary inflammatory index limit range between -1.91 and 5.04. In this study, participants were categorized in three groups based on DII scores. Among the biochemical parameters, there was no significant difference between the dietary inflammatory index groups of the C-reactive protein (CRP) level (p>0.05), but there was a significant difference the folic acid values between DII groups (p<0.05). Antropometric measurements were not significantly different among dietary inflammatory index groups (p>0.05). Dietary carbohyrate, protein, saturated fat, omega-3, omega-6 and fiber intake of individuals with low DII scores were found to be significantly higher than more inflammatory diet groups (p<0.05). In addition, participants with low DII scores had high intake of average daily vitamins of A, C, E, B6, riboflavin, folic asid and minerals of iron, potassium than others DII groups (p<0.05). There was no significant correlation between macro-nutrient intake of individuals' and number of oocytes retrieved and number of embryos that developed. A negative correlation was found between the percentage of saturated fatty acid and the number of embryos formed, and it was found statistically significant (p<0.05). There was found that intake of zinc was higher in women with a succesful transfer than whose transfer is unsuccessful (p<0.05). Caffeine consumption was found to adverse effect on the number of oocyte retrieved and number of embryos from individuals and pregnancy outcome (p>0.05). There was found that the number of oocyte from individuals decreased as the pro-inflammatory properties of diet increased (DII scores increased) (p>0.05). There was no significant difference between DII groups and individuals' transfer status and pregnancy outcome (p>0.05). In conclusion, it was detected that DII was a feasible index used in determining inflammatory potential of diet in infertile women. For this reason, it is belived that infertile women consuming healthy diet to decrease in inflammatory potential of diet, and it can improve reproductive functions and increase the chance of pregnancy in women.
