Abstract (EN)

Chinese investments have improved infrastructure in Djibouti and Ethiopia over two decades. Ports, highways, industrial and commercial zones, railways, water networks, communications, and energy have developed to match global trends and urban transitions. These investments increased Ethiopia's GDP to $163 billion and Djibouti's to $4.1 billion in 2023. Chinese investments have also improved economic ties, diversified revenue sources, and urban change by building residential complexes and improving health, education, and technology. This study evaluates the efficacy of these investments in realizing substantial and favorable economic development, while also anticipating both the positive and negative repercussions of these investments. The study employs a methodology grounded in economic statistics from the two nations, provided by international organizations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, to assess the development resulting from Chinese investments. Moreover, Djibouti and Ethiopia have maintained commercial contacts for decades, owing to their economic alliance. The report also analyzes the foreign debt of the two nations, indicating a potential debt crisis that will influence their critical financial, economic, and geopolitical decisions. The paper examines the influence of these debts on domestic markets and dependence on Chinese expertise. Keywords: (Investment, Infrastructure, Economic Growth, Geopolitical, Debt Implications)
