The relation of cinema with traditional arts, such as theatre and literatüre, was the object of many studies. However, "the relationship between cinema and pictorial art", which was not sufficiently treated in Turkey, is not a subject to be neglected. When we focus ourselves on the history of the world cinema, we notice that many fılms were influenced by paintings. Moreover, several directors affirm to have developed their cinematographic esthetics through pictorial art. This research has the aim of highlighting the influence of painting on Turkish cinema through the analysis of the film "Şahmaran" of Z. Livaneli. Even if it is difficult to arrive at a conclusion with one only Turkish film, the elements that we located through this research give us important information on the use of pictorial art by the cinema, which it is on the level of these techniques or its use as a reference.
