Abstract (EN)
Within the scope of this research, the effect of the use of a coursebook supported by AR (Augmented Reality) on students' achievement and attitude to English language teaching was analyzed. For this reason, a coursebook supported by AR was designed by the author. An experimental study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of this teaching material. The research was carried out in quasi-experimental design. The dependent variables of this research are the students' level of achievement and attitude to English lesson. The attitude variable has 3 sub-dimension including the attitude towards the importance of the course, the attitude towards the content of the course and the attitude towards the course-processing. The independent variable of this research is teaching method. Teaching method has two levels including whether the hybrid coursebook unit is used with same teaching method or not. Study group was formed by 15 female and 19 male totally 34 students, who were studying at 6th grade at a secondary school in Zonguldak province. One of the classes, which had similar demographic data with the other, was chosen randomly as Experiment Group and the other was chosen as Control Group. A pilot implementation of the teaching material and tests were done to a higher class. Before the experiment, English Achievement Test and English Attitude Scale were applied to the students in both Experiment and Control Groups as pre-test. The experimental study lasted 5 weeks. At the end of the experiment, English Achievement Test and English Attitiude Scale were applied to the students in both Experiment and Control Groups as post-test. In addition, semi-structured interview forms were applied to the teacher and students in Experiment Group. The data acquired by the interview forms were descriptively interpreted. All the data acquired after the research were examined using descriptive statistics and ANCOVA. The results of English Achievement Test indicate that there is a significant effect of using the coursebook which is supported with Augmented Reality, on students' academic achievement of English lesson. But, the results of English Attitude Scale indicate that there is no significant effect of using coursebooks which are supported with Augmented Reality, on students' attitude to the importance, content and teaching way of the English lesson within the limitations of the research.
