The perceptions of english teachers' professional efficacy and the issues that they are confronted with in teaching english

The aim of this research is to evaluate the perception level of English teachers? professional efficacy and the issues that they are confronted with in teaching English who work in the primary and the secondary schools.All the primary and secondary school teachers of English in the towns of Bağcılar, Bahçelievler and Bakırköy in Istanbul in 2008-2009 Educational years are within the scope of the population of this research. The inquiries were sent to all these English teachers of these towns and 201 inquiries that turned back formed the sample of the research .147 men and 54 women form the participants of the research. 153 of them work in primary schools and 48 of them work in secondary schools.168 of the participators are between 21-30 years old and 33 of them are 31 years old and over.178 of them have faculty degrees and 23 have other graduation degrees.137 of them graduated from the departments of English Teaching in educational institutions , 42 of them graduated from the faculties of science and letters and 22 of them graduated from the other faculties of branches. And also 172 of them have 1-12 years of occupational seniority and 29 of them have 13 years and over occupational seniority.In this research, it is studied by scanning model. Data are collected by the mediator of the inquiry which existed from 3 parts. First part is ?Personal Information Form? and the second part is ?The Inquiry Of The Perception Level Of English Teachers? Professional Efficacy?, the third part is ?The Inquiry Of The Issues That They Are Confronted With In Teaching English? .The data according to the research are analyzed by SPSS for Windows 15.0 statistics programme. Frequency (f) and percent (%) are used for the analysis of the whole variables and the answers of the questions that the participants have.Under the title of Argument and Comments it was carried out that some major results and helpful recommendations were done covering with the aspects of this research for the researchers who will search on this subject in the future.Key Words : Professional Efficacy, Teacher Efficacy, Perception of Efficacy, Teaching Foreign Language
