France factor in England and EU relations: From de Gaulle to the present

This study aims to provide a framework for understanding the origins and effects of the England's anti-integration attitude, to examine in depth the role of France in the England's attitude towards European integration and its relations with the EU, and to reveal the dynamics behind the Brexit process. To this end, the first section explains the England's attitude towards the European Community before becoming a member and the political and economic reasons for its subsequent desire to become a member. In the second part, the differences between the attitudes of the England and France in the developments related to European integration are discussed. In this context, the third part analyzes the process leading to Brexit, the referendum on the England's exit from the EU, the events that took place during the process and the problems such as the Fisheries crisis and the AUKUS. In conclusion, the England's anti-integration stance and the French factor have played a decisive role in the relations between the EU and the England. The differences between the England's and France's attitudes towards integration accelerated the Brexit process and led to the England's departure from the EU.
