Migration and migrant women as a human rights issue: the case of Germany

It is observed that the issues of Human Rights and Ethics, which are essential for a livable world and are among the fundamental disciplines of philosophy, are unfortunately ignored and insufficiently adopted today. As a result, human rights violations occur in many areas. In recent years, the increase in international migration due to wars in Syria and Ukraine, natural disasters such as earthquakes in Turkey, and voluntary reasons such as work, education, and family reunification have necessitated addressing the problems of migration and migrant women from an ethical perspective based on human rights. Germany, one of the countries with the highest migration from Turkey and the world for various reasons, has been chosen as a case study due to its migration and integration policies. The focus has been on identifying the ethical and human rights issues encountered in migration and proposing solutions in the context of Germany, which is considered a developed social state governed by the rule of law. In the first part of the study, migration is discussed in terms of concepts and content; migration subjects as migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees; reasons for migration; the current migration situation in Germany; migration problems faced by women and children; and Germany's migration and integration policies. New concepts such as Migration Ethics and the Feminization of Migration are also addressed when relevant. In the second part of the study, the concepts of ethics and human rights are examined; examples of human rights violations encountered during the migration process are provided; and the necessity and obligation for individuals to act with the knowledge of human dignity and human value in making or being forced to make migration decisions are emphasized. In the conclusion, it is discussed how the ethical and human rights issues faced by migrant women due to migration can be overcome with the knowledge of human value.
