Comparison of effects of inspiratory muscle training and traditional aerobic training on respiratory muscle strength and respiratory functions in healthy sedentary

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of inspiratory muscle training and conventional aerobic training to respiratory muscle force and respiratory functions in healthy sedentary boys. For this purpose, 40 healthy sedentary boys aged 12 are randomly divided in four groups; an inspiratory muscle training group (n=10), a conventional aerobic training group (n=10), a combined group carrying out both inspiratory muscle training and conventional aerobic training (n=10), and a control group not performing any kind of training (n=10). 30x2 breathing exercises of 40% maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) are applied as an inspiratory muscle training three times a week for four weeks. As a protocol of aerobic training, an aerobic traning program which includes runnings for five times in three-minute periods at a maximal hearth rage of 70% and two-minute joggings at the maximal heart rate of 30% between each runnings is performed. All test subjects are applied respiratory muscle force tests and respiratory function tests a day before and after the four-week-period. Obtained data is analysed via SPSS 22.0 program. The averages are examined with 2x2 mixed factor ANOVA and LSD rectification tests while percental change averages are studied via Mann Whitney U test. As a result of statistical analysis, a reasonable change is found in the aerobic training group, the inspiratory muscle training group and the combined group at the end of four weeks (p<0.05). Besides, it is seen that training groups show more reasonable increase than the combined group and the change of the combined group is reasonably at higher levels than the others (p<0.05) when the difference between groups is examined. As a result, it can be claimed that respiratory muscle force and respiratory functions of healthy sedentary boys who practise inspiratory muscle trainings in conjunction with conventional aerobic muscle trainings are positively affected.
