Investigation of serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D and 8-HYDOXY-2-deoxyguanosine levels in intrauterine growth restriction patients

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine effects of 25-hydroxyvitamin d and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine in the maternal serum of pregnant women with intrauterine growth restriction for early diognosis. Material and Methods: In this study, the levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin d and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine are compaired in patients with intrauterine growth restriction and healthy third trimester pregnants. In this study, 36 IUGRs who administered to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Şahinbey Training and Research Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic between the dates of March 2017 and September 2018 and 36 third trimester healthy pregnant women without any medical problems were observed. Statistical analyzes were performed by using Mann Whitney-U test, Shaphiro Wilk test and Kikare test. P value <0.05 was considered significant. Findings: The levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine in maternal serum from patients with intrauterine growth restriction were not significant when compared with the control group. Conclusion: 25-hydroxy vitamin d and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine levels in maternal serum are predictive of intrauterine growth restriction and are not suitable for early diagnosis. Vitamins D deficiency and inadequacy are common in pregnancies. There is a need for new and extensive studies using 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine levels and samples outside maternal serum (ex: urine) to assess early detection of intrauterine growth restriction.
