Abstract (EN)
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of intravitreal ranibizumab injection on the iridocorneal angle width and intraocular pressure in patients previously untreated Methods: Patients who underwent unilateral intravitreal ranibizumab injection comprised the study group and fellow eyes were the control eyes. Of 50 participants were examined prospectively, 32 were men, 18 were women, mean age 68.96 + 11.10 years. Goldmann tonometer and anterior segment optical coherence tomography was performed with Visante OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec) to measure the angle opening distance at the Schwalbe's line (SL-AOD) and the scleral spur angle before the injection of ranibizumab. Measurements were repeated at the first day, first week and first month after the injection. The effect of the intravitreal injection on the angle parameters were evaluated. Results: 38 (%76) eyes were phakic and 12 (%24) eyes were pseudophakic. Ranibizumab was injected in 10 patients (20%) for diabetic macular oedema, in 6 patients (12%) for macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion, in 34 patients (68%) for neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration. No significant difference was present between the study and control group with regard to corneal thickness, axial length, spherical equivalent, anterior chamber depth, iridocorneal angle 180o- 0o, SL-AOD 180o- 0o and intraocular pressure (IOP) preoperatively (respectively p=0.768, p=0.571, p=0819, .p=0.886, p=0.800, p=0.578, p=0.725, p=0.705). There was no statistically significant difference in iridocorneal angle 180º - 0º values and SH-AAM 180º - 0º measurements preoperative and postoperative first day, first week, first month for the group and phakic and pseudophakic subgroups. There was no statistically significant difference in IOP measurements preoperative and postoperative first day, first week, first month for the all group. (respectly p: 0.432, p: 0.130, p: 0.985). There was no statistically significant difference in IOP measurements preoperative and postoperative first day, first week, first month for the phakic subgroup. (respectly p: 0.469, p: 0.121, p: 0.331). There was no statistically significant difference in IOP measurements preoperative and postoperative first day, first week, first month for the pseudophakic subgroup. (respectly p: 0.767, p: 0.651, p: 0.560) Conclusion: No iridocorneal angle changes were observed following a single ranibizumab injection Key words: anterıor segment optıcal coherence tomography, intraocular pressure, ranibizumab
