Abstract (EN)
Ovarian cancer (OC) is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy, often diagnosed late due to nonspecific symptoms. Identifying efficient risk factors, including genetic markers, is crucial for effective prevention strategies. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the rs6983267 polymorphism in the 8q24 region and ovarian cancer (OC) risk. TaqmanR SNP Genotyping Assays and BioScience (ABI) 7500 real-time PCR system will used to genotype the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of 8q24 gene region. Statistical analysis performed using SPSS version 27.0. This study will involve a group of 50 OC patients and 52 healthy individuals. The chi-square test (P=0.7171) indicated no significant relationship between genotypes in cancer patients and controls. Specifically, for the rs6983267 polymorphism, TT genotype showed no significant risk compared to controls (OR: 0.7273, 95% CI: 0.2498-2.368, P=0.7724), and GT genotype analysis also showed no significant association with OC risk (OR: 1.136, 95% CI: 0.4836-2.657, P=0.8216). Overall, rs6983267 polymorphism was not associated with cancer risk in patients, and there was no significant difference (P=0.7732) in allele frequencies between patients and controls. This study suggests that the rs6983267 polymorphism in the 8q24 region is not independently associated with increased risk of OC among Turkish females. While demographic factors like BMI, and glucose metabolism play significant roles, genetic factors alone, represented by rs6983267, may have minimal influence on OC susceptibility. Future studies is required to focus on revealing the underlying molecular pathways associated with these genetic variations.
