Abstract (EN)

This thesis discusses the relationship between the design of buildings and utilization of natural ventilation in buildingsby studying the building of Kucukcekmece Municipality. The main objective of the investigation is to identify the extent of the effect of ventilation system (ventilative cooling) on the building, and how to integrate the ventilation system with the building or be a part of the building. The most important findings in this study are related to the benefit from the ventilation system in buildings and to identify natural ventilation system even more . Thus, the effect of natural ventilation primarily on the facades and the organization of the interior spaces is proved. In addition, the designing of naturally ventilated building is more difficult than designing a building mechanically ventilated. This thesis also shows that naturally ventilated buildings need not be shaped more aerodynamically (such as in the cars and an aero plane) than mechanically ventilated. Moreover, this study has proved that the natural ventilation does not impose a form of buildings but it is develop to other forms.It was also understood that the natural ventilation is one of the most important criteria in the classification of green buildings, and in low-energy buildings. There is a close relationship between the natural ventilation (double facades in particular) and natural lighting in buildings and their role in reducing energy.
