Abstract (EN)

The erythropoietin hormone is essential for RBC synthesis in the bone marrow. In this study, 120 samples were divided into three groups. GI = 30 patients with diabetic kidney disease, GII = 30 patients with DM2, and GIII = 60 healthy people were taken. Examinations were done for them (R.B.C, HCT, Hb, MCV, MCH, Iron, TIBC, UIBC, Trf, Ferritin, TSAT%, Glucose, HbA1c, Urea, Creatinine, Albumin, Total Protein, Globulin, and AGR). The results of chemical parameters shown a significantly increase (P≤0.01) in (EPO, Ferritin, Glocose, HbA1c, Urea, and Creatinine) and a significantly decrease (P≤0.01) in (RBC, Hb, HCT, Iron, UIBC, TIBC, TP, and TSAT%) and significant decrease (P≤0.05) of ALB and GLOB in patients with diabetic kidney disease compared with DM2 and healthy groups. The anaemia is occur by the incompetence of the kidneys to secrete EPO and the low iron due to malnutrition and vitamin B12 deficiency; the increase in urea and creatinine is occur by the inability of the kidneys to get rid of nitrogenous waste due to the damage caused by diabetes; and the increase in EPO is occurred by drugs that Erythropoiesis-stimulating Agents (ESA), such as recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO), that causes the hormone to rise, but most diabetic kidney patients are resistant to rHuEPO, which has been related to oxidative stress, inflammation, and iron deficiency.
