An investigation on the evolution of Turkish pavillion at Venice Art Biennale

Even though Turkey has been participating in the Venice Biennale since 1991, it only recently obtained a long-term venue and pavilion in 2014, due to the initiative of the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV, 2024). This study intends to research the Turkish Pavilion's development at the Venice Biennale between the years 2003 and 2022 by focusing on curators, curatorial frameworks, artists and artworks. The goal of this thesis is to decide upon a model from among these exhibitions that will consolidate the position of the Turkish Pavilion to warrant a venue at the Venice Biennale in future. For the methodology, I intend to conduct research at the online Historical Archives of Contemporary Arts (ASAC: Archive Storico Delle Art Contemporanee), I will analyse not only archival materials as case studies, but will also conduct interviews with curators and artists of the selected biennials.
