Investigation of performance of woven fabrics produced by siro spun yarns

Abstract (EN)

In this study, single, plied and sirospun cotton yarns and fabrics, which obtained by using these yarns in weft direction, were examined to analyze the effects of strand spacing on quality parameters of sirospun yarns and fabrics. The single, plied and sirospun yarns were produced with lineer density of 15/1 Ne, 20/1 Ne, 25/1 Ne and 30/1 Ne. The strand spacing of each sirospun yarns were chosen as 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm respectively. Yarn unevenness (CV), imperfections (thick place, thin place and neps), strength, elongation and hairiness properties were analyzed for each sample of yarn. Similarly, fabric performance features such as breaking strength and breaking elongation, abrasion resistance, pilling resistance, tear strength, air permeability, water repellency, crease recovery angle, wrinkle recovery resistance and flammability tests were performed. The results show that there is no unique strand spacing that gives the best performance for all yarns and fabrics examined. Generally, sirospun yarns with larger strand space produce better hairiness and strength values but, on the contrary better imperfection values can be obtained with lower strand spacing.
