The East policy of the Seljuk State of Iraq

The Seljuk State of Iraq, which emerged as a part of the Great Seljuk State with all its institutions and organizations, became one of the political organizations that made a name for itself in the Turkish-Islamic history. In particular, the critical nature of the regions in which it was established further increased the importance of the Seljuk State of Iraq. The failure of the Seljuk State of Iraq to reach a strong political position in Turkish history has caused Iraqi Seljuks to have direct contact with many states and political forces. The existence of the Iraqi Seljuks depending on the political adventure of the Abbasids, Great Seljuks and Atabeyliks shows us that they do not have a detached and independent character. Especially with the collapse of the Great Seljuk State, many political organizations have emerged and the political responsibilities of these powers have also increased. Considering the strategic situation of the Seljuk State of Iraq, we understand that they could not fulfill this political responsibility properly. As a matter of fact, there was a need for a strong Turkish-Islamic government in the field of Iraq. The Government of Seljuk State of Iraq, which is one of the most important candidates in filling the current political vacuum, remained in a very weak political position. During the periods when the Abbasid State was under political control, this weak state of the Seljuk State of Iraq must have relieved the Abbasids. It is not a coincidence that the Abbasids emerged as an actor that changed the balance in the Iraqi field, especially from the middle of the 12th century. As a matter of fact, the death of Sultan Mesud and the collapse of the Great Seljuk State greatly increased the influence of the Abbasids in Iraqi politics. This situation played a decisive role in all the political relations of the Seljuk State of Iraq. Factors such as Atabeyliks, Batini activities, Georgians and Khwarazmshahs also played a role in the politics of the Seljuk State of Iraq, which these factors are explained in the development part of our subject.
