Problematizing the problems encountered by Iraqi and Syrian refugees in the field of employment based on different variables: The case of Samsun

Due to the internal turmoil in Iraq and Syria, the Syrians and Iraqis, who did not have a safe and peaceful living environment, had to migrate from their places of residence in the hope of finding a peaceful and safe living space. The common culture and religion have been influential in the arrival of Syrians and Iraqis to Turkey because of their acquaintances and relatives in Turkey. Some of the Syrians and Iraqis who came to Turkey are in the status of asylum seekers. Syrian and Iraqi refugees, who have to work to survive, have faced many problems in the field of employment. The main problems faced by this group of refugees in the field of employment are working conditions and their relations with business stakeholders. Within the scope of this study, problems such as being unregistered in the field of employment, not having social security, working in heavy jobs and unhealthy conditions, being subject to long working hours, being forced to do unqualified jobs that the locals do not prefer, and working in dangerous jobs were examined. In addition, problems such as exclusion, marginalization, insults and discrimination, and not knowing Turkish at the desired level were also examined in this study as the problems they experienced with workplace stakeholders and customers. In the fieldwork carried out in this thesis, the situational research design of the qualitative research method was used within the scope of the interpretive approach. Interview technique was used to collect data. Data were interpreted through content analysis.
