A research of gender issues in working life: A research in information technology in Istanbul

For many years, not only in our country women labourers in work life being considered as a crucial international social problem. The difficulties of women labou-rers forced encountered in career and individual development and social and work life conflict has been discussed world wide as a research topic in many platforms. Also, the value added to national economy through women labourers cannot be dis-regarded This research aims to summarize the studies made on gender issue, discrimina-tion and other difficulties and make attitudes towards women labour. Researches on this topic clearly defines the social barriers and also the self barriers of women as well. In this study, literature review has been widely made concerning gender issue topic and it is aimed to define clearly the obstacles and difficulties of women emplo-yees. The findings and data has been collected by statistical methods and from natio-nal and international sources. Also the limited numbers of women top managers and promotion problems of women employees has been stated. In the research part of the study, a survey was conducted on 286 employees, 163 female and 123 male, in order to determine the opinions of the employees in the information technology sector in Istanbul.
