Definition in the context of tradition of Sharh al-Ishārāt; the example Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī and Sirâj al-Din Urmavî

Definition, one of the most important issues of logic, has a key role in the transfer of knowledge. The most important reason for this is undoubtedly because it provides a consensus on a certain issue. Thanks to this consensus, the definition creates words that are the expression of the meaning in the mind. In addition, the definition shows that it is related to epistemology at the point of transfer of knowledge, ontology by naming objects with a common word, and their processing and realization with the rules of logic is related to methodology. The definition, which is the expression of the nature in mind with language, has an important place at the point of conceptual explanation of thought and transfer of knowledge. The definition can be regarded as a touchstone in the construction of the system of thought, in the development and transmission of theories. The persons, who constitute the scope of our study, also examined the definition in detail in terms of the importance of the subject. However, it is seen that the intellectual accumulation and different thinking systems of the thinkers who take the definition affect their views on the subject. Avicenna, who is the greatest representative of the Messhai tradition, is also seen in Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī and Sirâj al-Din Urmavî, who are among the representatives of Ash'ariyya. The main purpose of our study is what the definition is and how it is handled in the context of the signpost tradition, based on different thought systems. While revealing this difference, we tried to show how the thinking systems adopted by the subjects of our study affect their perspective on the subject of definition. We also briefly touched on how commentaries bring explanation and criticism to a work, and what problems the criticisms cause in their own thinking system.
