The effect of group bağlama instruction with cooperative learning approach on performance and attitude

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of group bağlama instruction with cooperative learning approach on the performance of students? playing bağlama and attitude towards bağlama course.The study was carried out on 22 second year-class students who hadn?t ever had bağlama course before at Music Education Department at Fine Arts Department, Abant İzzet Baysal University in 2009-2010 Academic Year.In this study, ?pre test ? post test control group design? and ?post test control group design? were used. During the study, 2 hours of group bağlama instruction for five weeks was carried out with the control group and 2 hours of group bağlama instruction with cooperative learning for five weeks was carried out with the experiment group. In the experiment group, Jigsaw I technique of the cooperative learning approach was used. In both experiment and control group, five folkssongs including using thumb while playing bağlama, playing irregular meters with bağlama and transposition with bağlama were taught to students in accordance with the same aims.In order to determine the attitudes of students towards bağlama course, Attitude Scale Towards Bağlama Course developed by the researcher was used; in order to determine bağlama performance of the students at the end of the study, Bağlama Performance Assessment Questionnaire developed by the researcher was used.At the end of the study, that group bağlama instruction with cooperative learning approach didn?t make any statistical difference on students? bağlama performance and attitudes towards the bağlama course but there was a meaningful difference on the attitudes of experiment group students towards bağlama course were determined.
