Investigation of the effect of light on the building shell on actual museum buildings

Space, which is one of the basic components of architecture, is a designed emptiness. The acknowledged three-dimensional space, has a fourth dimension with people. This dimension is perception. People's perception of space is possible with light and shadow, which are the other components of space. For this reason space, which there is no fixed perception situation in, has a dynamic structure that varies. Since the existence of architecture, designers have taken account of light and they have done studies on this subject. Especially natural light, shadow and artificial light that manifests itself as a design element with development of technology has been effective in shaping the building envelope, during designing process. The change in the building shell as a result of this development will be handled the events and buildings that are regarded as turning points will be examined and handled over a timeline. After contextualizing place and light with the scope of architecture the focus will be on the effect of light on the building envelope in specially museum buildings. At this point, the areas which light has been effective in shaping the shell from the past to the present will be examined and the samples of the world and Turkey, which accepting light as the focal point in design, will be discussed. The main purpose of the thesis is; Within the scope of the museums discussed; The main elements that emerged as a result of the research and affect the museum shell are to be discussed in the light of the paintings.
