Abstract (EN)

Aim: The goal of this study is to compare the chronological and bone age of the adolescents with different skeletal malocclusion and vertical growth direction by examining the cephalometric of the hand-wrist films. In previous studies, the vertical growth direction and the skeletal malocclusions of the individual have not been included. In addition to these parameters, the age range of 11-14 is included while the male and female patients are evaluated separately, and a more specific study is aimed. Material and Method: In our study, there are a total of 18 groups, 9 girls and 9 boys. These groups are skeletal class I, class II, class III malocclusion groups with horizontal, normal, vertical direction patterns. Female and male patients are divided into subgroups as horizontal, normal, vertical, and each malocclusion also has subgroups in this way. From the radiograph archive, the cephalometric of the hand-wrist films for a total of 540 individuals, 270 females and 270 males as 30 individuals in each group, are examined in the study. The classification is done based on the ANB(˚) and SN-GoMe(˚) angles from the lateral cephalometric and the hand-wrist radiographs taken routinely from the patients for a diagnosis. Results: The skeletal maturation levels of the female individuals with skeletal Class I malocclusion and vertical growth direction are higher than the Class I females that show horizontal and normal growing direction. The skeletal maturations of Class III vertical males are found to be more grown than the Class III male individuals that show horizontal and normal growing direction. Conclusion: It has been observed that the individuals with a vertical growing pattern are more mature in terms of skeletal maturation, independent of malocclusion. This leads to the idea that the individuals that indicate a vertical growing could start their functional treatment at an earlier age.
