Abstract (EN)
The aim of this work is to examine the effect of some wood preservatives when applied to the surfaces of the heat treated ThermoWood Spruce wood panels which are produced in industrial conditions. Spruce wood samples were first heat treated Thermowood at 190 °C and 212 °C for 1.5, and 2 hours, respectively. Then samples were converted to massif panels in industrial conditions. The surfaces of the panels were treated using four different wood preservatives; water-based, acrylic, UV and teak oil. The application was conducted regarding the preservative producers application guide. The produced samples were tested for colour (Δa*, Δb*, ΔL* and ΔE), brightness, surface adhesion resistance, hardness, scratch resistance and thermal conductivity. Results showed that all preservatives diminished the brightness, surface adhesion and scratch resistances but improved the colour. Acrylic and teak oil preservatives improved the hardness but lower values were observed when the surface was treated with water-based preservative.
