Concepts of prophety in Islam, Christianity and Judaism

This study deals with the attributes of prophets in Judaism, Christianity and Islam with a comparative approach. The concepts and attributes of prophets in the Torah, the Bible and the Qur'an are analysed in detail. In the first part of the study, the concept of prophethood in Judaism is discussed, and the concepts of prophets in the Torah and Talmut, their duties, qualifications and their importance in Jewish theology are focused. The attributes of Moses, Abraham, David and other important Jewish prophets are discussed in the light of the Torah, traditional Jewish commentaries and Talmudic interpretations. In the second part, the issue of prophecy in Christianity is analysed. The concepts about the institution of prophecy in the Bible, its characteristics, the prophetic role of Jesus and its place in Christian theology are emphasised. The duties of prophets in Christianity to spread the message of God and the interpretations in the writings of the church fathers are detailed. In the third part, the institution of prophethood in Islam is discussed. The concepts related to the institution of prophethood in the Qur'an, the duties and qualifications of the apostles and their place in Islamic theology are discussed. The role of Prophet Muhammad as the last prophet, the qualifications and duties of the apostles are discussed. The concepts related to prophethood in the Qur'an are analysed in the light of Qur'anic verses, classical and modern exegesis and dictionaries. The study analyses how the institution of prophethood is shaped in the basic sources and theology of all three religions, and how this institution is shaped in the Abrahamic religions.
