A sample of fatwa collection in Islam law literature:El-Fetâvâ'l-Adliyye and its analysis

Al-Fatawa al-adliyya written by a-16th century-Ottoman Judge Rasul ben Saleh al-Aydini is the subject of this study. The author states that he prepared his work after the ruler of the period, Suleiman the Magnificent, had ordered the judges to verdict in accordance with the prevailing opinion in the Hanafi sect. In author's words, the work is composed by combining muftâ bih/the prevailing opinions of the Hanafi sect in common fiqh books in Islamic lands. The study consists of introduction, two parts and conclusion. The introduction aims to disclose the concept of fatwa and its place and function in Islamic-Ottoman law. The author and the work are introduced in the first part. The manuscript copies of the work, its content and sources and the studies on it are established. In the second part, al-Fatawa al-adliyya is examined both in general and in emphasis with some specific fatwas. The findings reached in this study by introducing and examining al-Fatawa al-adliyya, one of the-16th-century sources of Islamic-Ottoman law, are included in the conclusion part.
