It has been seen that from 8th to 17th century İslamic civilization had a pioneer role in science history. The inheritance of antique civilizations were embraced and also new fields and developments were added to the science. The categorization of the sciences was forced to have change because of the big advance in İslamic science history. The subject of our thesis is the position of mathematics in the categorization of sciences till 18th century in İslamic civilisation. In the first part of our study first İslamic thinkers Câbir Bin Hayyan, Kindî, Farabî, İhvân-ı Safâ, Âmirî and Hârezmî; in the second part Ibn Sina, Ibn Hazm, Ghazali, Fahreddin er-Razi, Nasîrüddin Tûsî, Kutbuddin Şîrâzî, Ibnu'l Ekfani, Ibn Khaldun and in the last part the Ottaman thinkers Mehmed Şah Fanari, Taşköprülüzâde Ahmed Efendi, Sadreddinzâde Mehmed Emin Efendi, Kâtip Çelebi and Saçaklızâde Mehmed Efendi and their works about categorization of sciences and their approach to the mathematics are discussed. The goal of this study is to identify the position of mathematics beside the other sciences in İslamic civilization.
