Discussions on the relationship of Islam with scientific progress

Field of science has always held its importance for Islamic Civilization. Although the West has managed to be the most prominent by outpacing the Islamic Civilizatıon as a result of particular events, Islamic Civilizatıon has continued studies in science. The purpose of the study is to reveal whether Islam has a disruptive or libertarian aprroach to science amid the confrontation of Ottoman Empire with Western Philosophy and Western Science. In the part of the study, scientific heritage transferred from various civilizations, Abbasids, the Mongolian Invasion and the contribution of Ottoman Empire to the progress of Islamic Science following the Mongolian Invasion will be addressed. The second part of the study will review the scientific process in Europe in the beginning then positivism and the altering approach to science will be presented. As the third part of the study, confrontation of Ottoman Empire with positivism and determinism- casulity between Tanzimat Reform Era and Republic Period will be put forward. Arguments, beginning with Renan, claiming Islam to be against scientific progress will be refuted by Ottoman intellectuals. In the final part, the result of the study related to our purpose will be put forward.
