Value chain analysis in enterprises: The case of brined grape leaf processing and packaging sector in Erbaa

The aim of the study is to explain the agricultural value chain by revealing all activities from raw material procurement to post-sales services in the vine leaf processing and packaging sector and to determine the strategies applied for each activity to create value. In this context, the study aims to analyze the value chain of vine leaf processing and packaging companies operating in the Erbaa district of Tokat province. In line with the purpose of the research, data were collected from the five largest-scale grape leaf producer companies operating in Erbaa using semi-structured interviews, one of the qualitative research methods. As a result of the interviews with these companies, it was determined that the most important finding within the scope of the value chain is the raw material, Erbaa Narince Grape Leaf, and the fact that the production process is carried out manually. Erbaa Narince Grape Leaf is a well-known and geographically indicated vine leaf throughout Turkey. Therefore, it has been understood that the manufacturing companies in the region focus on building their value strategies around this competitive advantage. In this study, the value creation strategies of Erbaa brined grape leaf producer companies were examined. As a result of the research, it was found that the value-creating strategies can be explained by the Resource-Based Approach. These findings are of a nature that will contribute to the strategic planning of companies and to achieving long-term competitive advantage.
