Isolation and diagnosis of some bacteria and fungi from the nasal cavity in hospitals workers (Kirkuk city)

In this study, 219 samples were collected from people (nose cavity) aged (24-≥61 years) who worked in Kirkuk city hospitals from November 2021 to April 2022. A total of 219 samples were taken from nose, with an average of 136 (62.1%) samples for males and 83 (37.9%) for females. The results showed that 219 swabs were examined under microscope (using 10% KOH solution) showed 92 positive and 127 negative for fungi. According to the results, fungal infection was more common among people aged 41-50 years, while it was less common among people aged 51-60 years old. For urease production, A. niger came in second with a percentage of 12.9%, trailing A. fumigatus by 40%. While Aspergillus species, which produced urease at the lowest rate (24.2%). All Aspergillus isolates can produce hemolysin. The results showed A. niger came in second with a percentage of 14.1%, trailing A. fumigatus by 32.8%. Aspergillus species produced the least amount of hemolysin, at 31.2%. Global primers to amplify the anterior and posterior ITS1 target region were selected as a recognized taxonomic marker to search genetic information among different fungal isolates in this region with the aim of diagnosing DNA extracted from local isolates of Aspergillus.
