Istanbul Atatürk Cultural Center Library interior surface coating materials investigation in terms of sustainability criteria

Atatürk Cultural Center is one of the iconic structures with its memory, aesthetic and functional features in terms of architecture. It was rebuilt and opened on October 29, 2021 in order to continue to fulfill its mission on behalf of culture, art and society. Today, it is known that technological and scientific developments change consumer and user habits. Changing consumption habits bring with it many problems. Especially the advancing technology after the Industrial Revolution; It causes the development of industry, the concentration of the population in big cities and the increase in consumption. In this context, the natural environment and natural resources are gradually decreasing, chemical wastes pollute the environment, in short, the balance of the ecosystem we live in is disrupted, the life of all living things is negatively affected and it is becoming a global threat. The main purpose of the study; The aim is to draw attention to the fact that the concept of sustainability, which is one of the important issues of today, has gained importance in the construction industry and architecture as well as in many sectors. The relationship between the diversity of building materials, which are widely used in today's buildings, and the concept of environment and human brings sustainability factors to the agenda. While these building materials are used in buildings, they are evaluated according to many criteria such as not having harmful content for humans and the environment, production, transportation and supply process, and not posing a threat to the environment after the application. In this context, sustainability was examined through the interior surface coating materials of the AKM Library unit built within the Atatürk Cultural Center. The increase in sustainable structures is important in terms of contributing to sustainability in a global context. For this reason, it is aimed that the thesis study will be an example in terms of sustainable building understanding.
