The attitudes of the teachers, teacing at the vocational high schools in Ümraniye, İstanbul, towards computer asisted learning

The need for qualified staff members in education has increased as a result of the rapid developments in technology and social changes. That is why countries give a high importance to vocational education. For the rapid and stable development of a country, adequate number of staff members and efficient use of labor force is required. That shows the use of computers as a vehicle of education in vocational high schools is as much important as the role of vocational high schools in the development of a country.The use of computers has been supplied in order to increase the quality in education and to carry out permanent learning. Also, the use of computers in education is necessary and inevitable because knowledge has been more complicated, learning styles have changed and the number of teachers at school is inadequate Thanks to Computer Supported Education students can revise and consolidate and also can learn individually. Teachers need to have a positive attitude towards computers to enable efficient use of computers in education.In this work, attitudes of the teachers working in vocational high schools towards Computer Supported Education has been analyzed. Attitudes of 239 teachers working in vocational high schools in Ümraniye in Istanbul in 2005-2006 Educational year towards computers and Computer Supported Education has been analyzed. Personal information, a questionnaire to check out the attitudes towards computers in general and the use of computers in education have been used in this work to gather data. One way variance analysis, ANOVA and T tests have been used and checked in accordance with 0.05 significance level. Not a noteworthy difference has been found among the attitudes of the teachers, comparing their age groups, genders, professions, length of service and branches. But a noteworthy difference has been detected according to whether they have taken a course or not, whether they have their own computers or not and whether they have access to internet or not.
