A research onto Istanbul street furniture

My purpose is to conduct a research respect to ?Street Furniture? issue, being an urban problem for Istanbul, which seems to be a physical problem but, yet, which has actually roots in sociological cause and effect relationships.First of all, I conducted a literature-based research on ?city? and ?urban space? concepts with an eye to clarifying the relationship between such concepts, as well as their development. I tried to underline the importance of city and urbant space in human life, thus unveiling their relationship with street furniture.I addressed street furniture concept from various points of view with an eye to getting them classified properly. Thereafter, I conducted field works in Istanbul and Praque to get deeper insight into street furnitures.I addressed street furnitures in Istanbul under light of all these works and tried to set some criteria about their features both in terms of enhancement of their functions and of urban aesthetics.In conclusion, I tried to express the arguments about proper ways of manufacture and implementation of street furnitures in Istanbul in observance of contemporary city planning principles and of city characteristics and to underline the fact that more systematical efforts need to be made in this direction in addition to current efforts.
