In the research work, the evaluation of the features of motif, pattern and composition in the caftan fabrics being present at the Topkapı Palace in Istanbul is targeted.The universe of the research is formed by the caftans being present at the Topkapı Palace in Istanbul. The whole of the universe is reached and 50 caftans are selected as sampling.The motifs in the caftan fabrics haven?t been drawn so this case is discussed as a problem. The sultans to whom the caftans belong, caftans? periods, motif features, the colors used in the caftan fabrics, the fabrics used in the caftans, linings and their distribution according to the centuries are mentioned in the part of findings and interpretations.The caftan belonging to 1st Ahmet takes place largely in the research work; most of them belong to 17th Century. In the caftan fabrics, the botanical, animal, geometrical, symbolical motifs and the motifs stylized from the nature and the motifs coming from the foreign effects are used. The sizes of the design attract attention. In the caftan fabrics, confusing composition lay-out is seen largely. The cream is seen mostly at the ground of the fabrics and the color of blue is also seen in the designs of the fabrics.The motifs taking place in the caftan fabrics, which are in the scope of the research, are examined. Their general and detailed drawings are made in conformity with the composition features and sizes.
