Abstract (EN)
In Turkey, the Anatolian civilizations, cultures and formed by the accumulation of thousands of years of ancient religion with the impact of alternative medicine treatments are available. However, especially in Istanbul; "New Age Healing" applications, which are included in the "New Age Movement", which originated in America and Europe and spread all over the world, have also been used by people in the last twenty years.Unlike Europe and the United States, this method is still not being accepted by the health care system in Turkey and sociological researchand there is not enough information about in Turkey. However, due to the increase in the popularity of alternative treatments all over the world, especially in the last fifty years, it has brought sociological studies investigating the different aspects of this phenomenon. While examining the sociology of alternative medicine in Istanbul, the historical and intellectual development of the subject in the world, the sociological development, the birth process of alternative therapies, the sociological facts associated with it, the examination in the context of health sociology, alternative treatment types, treatment practitioners, alternative medicine users and scientific developments supporting this phenomenon (Especially theories in physical science) are studied.In this study, the new age healing methods, which have become widespread in Istanbul in the last twenty years, will be examined through the results of in-depth interviews with 22 participants and 2 physicians with qualitative research method as well as associating them with the theoretical level. This research consists of the questioning of why people use alternative medicine, what may be the sequence of events that lead to the use of alternative medicine, and the reasons why people choose alternative medicine instead of orthodox medicine
