Abstract (EN)

The Straits, a geographical concept, have taken the duty of strengthening the geostrategic and geopolitical position of the authority throughout history. It has also directly impacted the political, social, economic and trade life of humanity. During the Ottoman Empire, the Turks had full control over the Dardanelles Strait during the reign of Orhan, and the Marmara Strait during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. Until the 1841 London Straits Convention, sovereignty of the Straits was strictly under the control of the Ottoman Empire. However, with the agreements made since this date, the status of the Straits has changed and has been restructured in an area that will protect the benefits of international powers. When World War I broke out, the Stratis were undoubtedly one of the places that the great powers followed carefully. In the first months of the war, the Ottoman Empire closed the Straits to all kinds of passage based on their neutralist policy. When the Ottoman Empire lost this war, they passed the control of the Straits to the Allied powers in accordance with the Mudros provisions they signed. After the victory of the National Struggle Movement under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal, the issue of the Straits was one of the main areas that the Turkish Delegation, which went to Lausanne for the peace conference wanted to dominate. In this thesis, the way İstikbal Newspaper, which started its publication life in Trabzon in 1918, handled and interpreted the Straits issue during the Lausanne Peace Conference and the message it wanted to give to the audience was evaluated and presented in all its aspects. During the process, firstly, the copies of the İstikbal Newspaper, which focused on the straits during the Lausanne Conference, were translated and transcribed, and then this study was put forward by making use of main sources, research, review works and articles. writings regarding the Stairs by translation, and then the outcome was made by utilizing the main sources, research, and articles. Since our study represents a local newspaper, it will raise awareness about the use of local sources in historical research.
