Turkish-German relations in the era of Union and Progress Party (1908-1914)

The defeats of the Ottoman Empire increased in the late 19th century and the power of the army decreased. II. During the reign of Abdulhamid, the issue of training the army was prioritized. For this reason, II. Abdulhamid will have close contacts with Germany and the Ottoman Empire will request German officers to train the army. This situation will form the basis of Turkish-German relations. In the same period, a group of Ottoman intellectuals who were concerned about the situation of the State would enter the stage of history and establish the Committee of Union and Progress. The Committee of Union and Progress, which will leave deep traces in the Ottoman history, will start a new era, II. To Abdulhamid II. By having the Constitutional Monarchy declared, there will be hope for the Ottoman people. II. Due to Abdulhamid's closeness with Germany, he will initially keep his distance from Germany. However, Germany's not being involved in the race to share Ottoman lands like other European powers would reverse the distanced approach of the Union and Progress. II. The Unionists, who managed to have a say in the government after the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy, would attach great importance to foreign policy for the development of the Ottoman Empire in political, military, economic and cultural fields. Germany, which had great support for the Ottoman Empire in all these areas, would be on the same side as the Ottoman Empire against the Allied Powers in World War I.
