Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine the incidence of urolithiasis and the chemical composition of uroliths collected from cats brought to veterinary clinics in Izmir region with urinary system complaints. The 12-month patient portfolio of 6 clinics in the region was examined and stones taken from 18 cats by cystotomy were chemically analyzed using the "X-Ray Diffraction method" at the Ankara MTA laboratory. For this purpose, physical, radiological and microscopic examinations of cats coming to Albatros, Aşkvet, Peterson, Mekvet and Vetstop veterinary clinics were carried out in 2024. Cats presenting with lower urinary tract complaints were separated. The number of these with urolithiasis and those containing uroliths larger than 0,3 mm were determined. Additionaally, cystotomy was performed on 18 cats of different ages and genders, and the Stones were successfully removed. These stones were then washed with alcohol to remove any body fluids, secretions and tissues, and then dried at room temperature. These Stones were placed in zip-lock bags and sent for analysis at different periods. Urolithiasis was found in 25% of cats brought with urinary system complaints, and uroliths larger than 0.3 mm were detected in 3% of them. It was determined that 50% of the 18 uroliths collected were struvite, 39% were calcium oxalate, and 11% were mixed (struvite + calcium oxalate).
