Özet (EN)
This study aimed to determine the prevalence of tumors in cats and dogs in Izmir Province and to evaluate and share the results. The study utilized data from seven veterinary health centers in Izmir, including one animal hospital and six veterinary clinics. The records included data from 66,830 dogs and 44,553 cats examined, as well as pathology reports for 133 dogs and 57 cats. The cases spanned a six-year period from 2018 to 2024. The research revealed a tumor prevalence of 0.20% among the 66,830 registered dogs and 0.13% among the 44,553 cats. In dogs, the most common tumor type was lymphoma, accounting for 7.5% (10 cases). Among the 57 cats with tumors, the most common types were inflammatory and soft tissue tumors, with 30 cases (33.3%). In the age distribution of dogs diagnosed with tumors, 29% were aged 0-5, 48% were aged 6-10, and 23% were aged 10 and older. In cats, the 6-10 age group represented the highest tumor prevalence, with 31 cases (54.3%). Additionally, the malignancy rate was 48.87% in dogs. As a result, the findings underscore that tumors represent a significant medical issue in cats and dogs, with prevalence increasing with age. Some results aligned with previous studies, while others differed from existing literature. Recording and analyzing tumor cases in cats and dogs in Turkey and determining their prevalence will contribute significantly to the field of Veterinary Oncology.
