Examining the physical transformation of Karşıyaka Çarşı district in İzmir with respect to the changes in comsumption patterns

For the last 10-15 years, there?s qualitive change which leads societies and cultures to change their center of gravities and gives them a new direction noticably all over the world.During this period, the efforts of modernism and the capitalist economy in parallel have inevitably changed the lifestyles of socities and economies in a fast way.The reason of the rise of changes continuosly depends on the changes in the qualifications of production and consumption. One of the most noticable characteristic of this process is that the concept of consumption is put forahead more than production. In the 20th century, the force of capitalist economy for change has brought a locational shift in appearance and also created some radical newnesses in the consumption patterns as in the other areas. Since 1980s, economical structure and the styles of production, which have actually been in change, have creaed socio-economic, physical and locational changes in urban places.By the effects of the economy politicsand plans that are practiced in Izmir and Turkey after 1980s, some vital changes have been experienced in urban places. While these chnages gain a more noticableidentity by the help of the form and the texture of condensity in urban places, the fictional ingredients of urban functions provides a beter way of understanding too. The mentioned formation has also vitally changed the existing structure in the central areas of urban places. In this scope, Karşıyaka surrounding which is a traditional subcenter and an important urban place in Izmir, affected inevitably from the experienced change and transformation process from past to present. In this study, the factors that have an impact on the mentioned chane, the changes occuring on the structure of the society, the changes taken place by an increase in the consumption and finally the reflections of these changesto urban places have been researched. The scope of the mentioned changes, Karşıyaka surrounding is tried to be investigated as an sample area.
