Population exchange in Izmir-Kemalpaşa

Migration is an obligatory or voluntary act to survive since the existance of humanity. We can group actions as the obligatory or voluntary. The obligatory ones become aotonornically out of individuals or communities. Positive or negative consequances are inevitable results for migration. Migration to Anatolia in the 19th century in the Ottoman Empire has had important consequances in terms of its effect. After the Turkish War of Independence, in the Lausanne Peace Conferance according to the cartel which was signed on January 30,1923 except Turks in Western Thrace and the Greek population in Istanbul, there was a migration wave which is named exchange populatiın between Greece and Turkey. During the migration which became under the name of exchange population, exchange committee and Exchange Ministry of Public Works and Housing was established responding to the needs of Muslims from Greek territory, named the Turkish population resettlement to the various regions in Turkey would be provided for Exchange population from the Greece statutorily. After the war in Izmir, where the bloody beginnings of the War of Independence took place the migration movement that started with the soldiers with the continue. Kemalpaşa district of Izmir, which has hosted many civilizations since it has been om migration routes throughout history, will also affected by the migration wave. In order to determine the aid to be given to Turkey and to determine quantity and quality of immovables, in the light of the liqudation return, forced migration in Kemalpaşa and its vicinity will be examined with witness and documents. In this study the migration of Kemalpaşa, referred to as Nif in the Ottoman Period and the population waves after the exchange, will be discussed and in the light of the new information and data, the effects of the social transformation experienced by the city will be examined.
