Özet (EN)

The scope of this M.Sc. Thesis is the need to investigate the seismic behavior of soils in Izmir and its vicinity. For this aim, totally 16 earthquake records that had been recorded by 16 local seismic station network (IzmirNET) founded with the support of Prime Ministry of Turkey, Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) Earthquake Administration Department (DDB) and TUBITAK KAMAG Project (Project No: 106G159) were examined. The earthquake records have magnitudes that changing between 4.0 and 5.0 (ML). The S-wave, P-wave and Noise records-covering the period of 20 seconds before the earthquake were studied, separately. The records were evaluated by Horizontal Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) method. The dominant frequencies and amplification values of districts that IzmirNET stations had been established were obtained from the earthquake data. Frequency values were interpreted according to the NEHRP soil classification updated by Roudriguez-Marek, et al. (2001). Results of the S-wave, P-wave and Noise records were compared. The P-wave and Noise records gave similar features for spectral ratios. The results of S-waves are found more reliable for spectral ratios, and soil classification is given based on the results of the S-wave spectral ratios.
