Abstract (EN)

Iznik (Nikaia) has been known as lands inhabited by people since prehistoric times. Although it has changed its name many times throughout history, it has always maintained its importance. Although the value of the city was not very high during the Roman Empire, it gained more importance especially in the Byzantine period, with the adoption of Christianity and the Ecumenical Council meetings. Iznik, which has an important place in ceramic production especially in the Byzantine and Ottoman Periods, has come to the fore in ceramics besides religious activities. Especially in Iznik, where Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman ceramic samples are concentrated, Byzantine Period ceramic finds were found in the structure of the Underwater Basilica Planned Church, which constitutes the area of the study. In the Atrium S12A trench, which was started to be excavated in 2019, the finding of Middle and Late Byzantine Period ceramics was the subject of this thesis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the Middle and Late Byzantine Period ceramics, which were found in the Underwater Basilical Planned Church in Bursa Province, Iznik District, during the 2019 and 2021 excavation periods, together with their form, ornament, material and technical features.
