ABSTRACT THE EVALUATION OF MELAMINE UREA FORMALDEHYDE (MUF) GLUE IN PARTICLEBOARD INDUSTRY WITH ISOCYANATE Volkan CAVDAR Duzce University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Department of Wood Mechanics and Technology Master's Thesis Supervisor: Dr. Faculty Member Halil Ibrahim SAHIN July 2019, 101 pages Developing technology and changing conditions are inevitable. Businesses have become obliged to keep up with this development and change in the plate industry. Firms take measures to increase their market share and make innovations. A number of chemicals are used to make plates that are suitable for the conditions of use and to make them suitable for world standards. The most important of these chemicals is PMDI glue. In this study; isocyanate added MUF glue and particleboard production. PMDI glue is used for water intake, thickness (swelling) and formaldehyde tests. The wood mixture used in this study was 15% spruce chip, 50% pine, 20% oak, 10% cover, 5% chip and 18 mm thick were used. In the production of plates, MUF and PMDI adhesives were used. In our study, PMDI adhesives were evaluated with MUF adhesive. Five products (5 trials for each product) were obtained for the MUF glue and PMDI glue. PMDI glue was used in 0%, 0,5, 0.75, 1, 1,5, 2% of the tests, and the density, moisture content, water absorption, thickness swelling, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity in bending, internal bond, surface soundness and screw holding performance were tested. Variance analysis (ANOVA) was performed with SPSS 18.0 statistical analysis method. The effect of MUF glue and PMDI glue on the plates was determined to be statistically significant in the 95% confidence interval by the analysis of variance. In order to identify different groups or groups and to identify subgroups that could be considered different and equal, the averages of the plate groups were questioned by the Duncan Test. The Independent T-Test was applied for the comparison of MUF adhesive and PMDI glue. As a result, it has been determined that the values of all physical and mechanical properties of the manufactured MUF and PMDI added particleboard meet the lower limit or upper limit values required in the application areas of P3 type (non-load bearing plates used in humid conditions) specified in TS EN 312 (2012) standard.
